Mu mo dheidhinn / About me

Claire Frances MacNeil is a Gaelic singer whose work explores the rich diversity of Scotland's song traditions through performance and research. A Traditional Gold Medallist from the Royal National Mòd, she was the first graduate of the MMus in Gaelic Song at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In 2025, she was named a semi-finalist in BBC Radio Scotland's Young Traditional Musician of the Year, placing her among Scotland's leading emerging traditional musicians.

Her performances draw on archival research, oral history, and close collaboration with tradition bearers, bringing overlooked Gaelic songs to contemporary audiences. She has collaborated with artists including Maggie MacInnes, Rory Matheson, Pàdruig Morrison and TEUD: The Hebridean Fiddle Project, and has performed across Ireland, Germany, and France.

She is currently recording her debut album, due for release in early 2027, bringing together a collection of rarely heard Gaelic songs, many of which have never before been commercially recorded.
